‘Wise Words’
Through the Roof has brought together a committed team of disabled Christians, from around the UK, who are willing to share their experiences to mentor and offer words of wisdom to a new generation of young disabled leaders.

Statistics, unfortunately, demonstrate that disabled people are still under-represented in many areas of society such as employment, and church or community leadership is no exception. Therefore, as part of Through the Roof’s youth programme, Integr8, our Influence project will help young disabled Christians to positively influence their church and local communities.
Tim Wood, initiator of the Influence project and the Integr8 programme said, “I am very privileged to be working with this team of people. Hearing about their life experiences and determination to overcome barriers, coupled with their Christian faith, means that they have a lot of wisdom and encouragement to offer to younger disabled people to inspire them”.
Influence will provide young disabled people with teaching in leadership skills; mentoring and discipleship from mature disabled Christians; as well as practical opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, in order for them to make an impact on their church and local communities.
The mentor event enabled the team to get to know and gel with each other through powerpoint presentations, a DVD and a fun activity on communication. Each person had the opportunity to introduce themselves, and gave input to help shape the programme – although, as was to be expected from a group of unique pioneering individuals, most people had different opinions!
Mentors met again early in 2008, with young disabled people being invited to get involved at an exciting launch event later in the year.
